Day 5- Idaho to Yellowstone
We woke up really early today and had a quick breakfast with Tutu before driving through Montana on our way to Yellowstone. There were forest fires near Missoula so we didn't get to see the famous Montana blue skies. We did, however, get to see Montana's first drive-in. We had lunch at Matt's Place- a tiny drive-in in Butte, MT with only a single counter. We sat by some Butte locals and chatted with them about our roadtrip. We hit some road construction so we didn't get to Yellowstone until later afternoon. We were able to see the Paint Pots (a series of colorful geothermal areas) and a huge geyser before a rainstorm hit us. Pronghorn antelope and a large elk were also visible from the main road! Although we had planned on camping in Yellowstone, the torrential downpour deterred us and we ended up staying in a log cabin in West Yellowstone, MT. We were able to see the Yellowstone IMAX movie in town too.
